About the Session

Welcome to our first EMCC APR ethics and coaching 2025 meet. This month in March the focus will be on "Managing Ethics Online: A Relational Perspective". In this timely session in today's digital age where online coaching and mentoring has become more prevalent, researchers Dr. Rachel Hawley and Dr. Ioanna Iordanou will be leading the discussion to bring deep insights into this crucial topic.

The purpose of this session is to contribute to the understanding and practice of managing ethics when coaching virtually. By focusing on relational dynamics, the emphasis will be to explore specific ethical dilemmas that might arise for coaches, mentors and leaders navigating the virtual space. Some of the areas covered will be framed upon:

  • the ethics of preparation
  • the ethics of process
  • the ethics of relations
  • and the ethics of diversity and inclusion in a global context

This framing is incredibly comprehensive in covering the critical dimensions of virtual coaching ethics. Each of these areas has its own complexities and addressing them through a relational lens will provide rich insights for coaches and mentors. The issues explored in this session are guided by findings from relational research using focus group discussion with coaches and coach supervisors. The session will offer practical takeaways that are really valuable for coaches navigating the virtual space.

At EMCC APR ethics and coaching meets, our purpose is to highlight ethical maturity in coaching by deeper reflections into the inquiry "what is ethics, how does ethics serve us and humanity, what is my definition of ethics in individual and collective terms and how do I want to put ethics into my practice?" The invitation is to take part in the discussions to set the standards of best practices in coaching in ethical terms and advocate the norms of behaviour that everyone in coaching, mentoring and supervision should follow.
